Individuals suffering from pain may want to consider a pillow for neck and shoulder pain. Learn what the options are and which types of pillows work best here.

A pillow for neck and shoulder pain may not sound like it can provide you with the type of help you need, but really, it can. I have tried several of these pillows on the market and have found that some are better than others. Before you head out to find out what your options are, take a few minutes to consider these and my experiences with them.

Inflatable Pillows: This type of pillow works by allowing you to adjust the amount of air in each of its chambers. I do like it, to some level because it does allow for some upper shoulder pain relief. The only downside is to inflate it!

Tempurpedic Neck Pillow: Another option is this, which is perhaps one of the more popular. This type of pillow is a harder support, which is nice. Because it fits snugly against your neck to your body’s proportions, it works nicely.

Neck Support Pillow: This is a pillow for neck and shoulder pain relief. As you lay on its larger design, your head crests over the top. Your shoulders and lower back are supported by the pillow, completely relaxing you. A good option when you are in pain, but not for everyday sleeping.

Massager Pillows: A number of products on the market work to relief stress, tension and muscle pain through massages. Here are collars, pillows and all sorts of other products. I have a few of these and use them when tension builds in my neck and shoulders. You do not need something too expensive, but do get something made well.

When buying a pillow for neck and shoulder pain, keep in mind that quality counts. Not everyone will find the same type of pillow ideal. If you are hoping for something soft and made of feathers, think again. That could be exactly why you are feeling so much pain in your shoulders and neck. Instead, look for support, as it will make a sizable difference in your quality of sleep, too.

Choose neck support pillows to help provide your neck and back with support. Choose pillows that are comfortable, too.

Neck support pillows provide just what their name implies, support for your neck. I was very leery of these pillows when I first considered this purchase. All I could think of was that they would be hard as a rock and impossible to adjust. The first pillow I bought was a lesser expensive one and I wasn’t all that impressed. Truthfully, it gave me some support but it was not as comfortable and as fitting to my neck’s shape.

I did try others, though. I have tried water based pillows and have found that these are some of the best available. Others are therapeutic. Some are made from memory foam. All of them are very different in the way they feel and work, but they still have the same goals:

• Provide your neck and head with support not just a soft place to lay
• Relieve the tension and strain you feel in the morning.
• Improve the quality of sleep you get.

I have also found that I am much more comfortable at night using neck support pillows than when I do not use them. Now, the question is this. Do you need one? Some of these pillows are expensive, but others are just a few dollars more than the average pillow at your local department store. I do recommend quality since the cheapest products may not work as well.

Consider purchasing neck support pillows if you wake up with a stiff neck, feel like your head is too heavy by mid afternoon, or you are struggling with upper back pain. These are perhaps the best types of help to get since they are often specifically caused by poor sleeping ability. A neck pillow can provide you with improved comfort while supporting you. In fact, anyone can benefit from them, if they are willing to make the investment.

Water Pillow Helpful or Not for Neck Pain?

Is the water pillow a good choice for neck pain? Find out what happened when I used the water pillow for my neck pain.

The water pillow is just what it sounds like. The pillow is filled with liquid, which allows it to better adjust to your movements throughout the night. I was pretty excited about purchasing one, since I do believe that much of my neck pain is at least in part due to the way that I sleep at night. So, I purchased it and set out to use this pillow.

The water pillow works, but it really depends on which brand that you get. Do take the time to read the reviews of these pillows prior to purchasing them. It is highly recommended that you spend a bit more to get a higher quality, otherwise, you will feel like you are in a swimming pool all night. What I did find was that you do not have to be the most expensive to get the job done.

Did it work to relieve my pain? My neck pain did see some relief. It took me one night to get used to the pillow. When I used it after that point, it was more comfortable. What is really helpful about them is that I can use the same pillow as someone else and so forth. Because the pillow adjusts to the structure of your neck and head, even your shoulders, it works well to help anyone. This was a great feature. I felt comfortable and sleep better because of it.

The water pillow was helpful at reducing some of my neck pain. Again, not all models offer the same level of quality and it does take some getting used to. If you wake up with a stiff neck each day, then this may be just what you need to see relief. It definitely depends on why you are experiencing the neck pain. I do recommend trying the pillow and finding out if you like it.
