Middle back pain is not as common as other forms, such as lower back pain or even neck and shoulder pain. Nevertheless, it is intense when you feel it coming on. Often times, the pain wraps around you, and feels like something is squeezing your midsection. When the pain is intense, you likely need medical attention as it could be your ribs on an organ injury. Yet, in most cases, the pain is actually radiating from a muscle ailment.
There are several ways to relieve this type of pain, especially the muscle aches you are feeling. First off, one of the first things to do is to use some anti-inflammatory medication, including ibuprofen, to relieve the pain. Get some rest and allow it to heal enough. Do some light stretching of the back muscles, without straining yourself.
When, once the middle back pain is under control, work to keep it from coming back. Do some light weight training to help strengthen the muscles in your lower and middle back. Avoid sit-ups, but instead use weights that allow you to bend and flex the muscles throughout your abdomen and back.
For those suffering from the pain right now and looking for some help, you may also want to consider a cold compress on the muscles that are hurting. Leave them on for at least 20 minutes and then remove. Do this hourly until the throbbing subsides.
If you suffer from middle back pain continuously, after visiting your doctor to ensure no major illness is at play, use back supports for any demanding exercise. Also, improve your posture by using foot supports. Each of these things will greatly reduce your risk of worsening the back pain. If the pain continues, or intensifies, it is best to speak with your doctor before doing much else.
